Developing a Strategic Plan for Cancer Control Research in New Zealand

Area: Council

Publication Date: 14 February 2007

This report documents the first important steps in developing a strategic approach to cancer control research in New Zealand.

Part one presents the findings of an initial stocktake the Cancer Control Council undertook to determine the level of investment in cancer control research in New Zealand from 2003 to 2005. For the first time this gives us a snapshot of who is funding cancer control research, how much is funded and how this funding is distributed across the spectrum of cancer control.

Part two contains the proceedings of the Cancer Control Research Funders Forum which the Council convened to discuss and refine the findings of the stocktake and identify the next steps in developing a strategic plan for cancer control research.

Part three looks at what needs to happen next as the Council, in partnership with the research community, develops a five-year rolling research plan for cancer control.
